| NeverNeverLand NeverNeverland is an Animal Welfare Organisation that rehomes abandoned and abused dogs. The Association was founded in 2003 by the late Asa Werner, and has continued since her passing in 2008, under a new board. NNL has rehomed 600 dogs in Sweden/Norway since it began as a tiny seed, called PAWS to Sweden. We work primarily with dogs from Ireland, where the welfare situation is disastrous. Tens of thousands of dogs do not have the chance to live in dignity and that happens every year. We in NNL believe that neutering stray dogs reduces the breeding of dogs of unknown origin, so that ultimately the amount of unwanted dogs will be radically reduced. Greyhounds We are not against greyhound racing in theory, but we are totally opposed to irresponsible ownership and the industrial management of dogs. The racing industry in itself registers on average, 20,000 puppies per year. But after three years, only a small minority of these is traceable. Only those dogs that are fast enough to train to race (at 18-24 months of age) go on to a career on the track. Most dogs that get injured are destroyed. The lucky ones end up in rescue to be rehomed, the rest face certain death. There are, indeed, responsible owners and trainers who take responsibility for their dogs during and after their career, however there are far too many that do not. The
over breeding of pedigree dogs. The situation in 2011 is that due to Ireland's economic situation with high unemployment forcing people to leave their houses, moving into apartments or to emigrate to Australia / New Zealand (almost 1,000 persons a week emigrate) As a result of this, pets / farm animals are left behind, sometimes surrendered to rescue; but many more are abandoned on the streets. The situation of abandoned dogs is now even more catastrophic than ever and we have not yet seen the huge consequences of this. 2008 was a year that gave great impression on us, NeverNeverLand founder Asa Werner was killed in a tragic cycling accident, and we in the association decided to continue Åsa's tremendous work for the dogs. The loss was huge and still is. In July 2008 we registered as a Charity, and since then, work has moved on. The group, which includes both the board and volunteers are scattered from north to south in Sweden, with several members in Norway. The membership of the association has increased and in Dec 2010 we had 158 registered members. As a non-profit organisation, we depend on donations to continue our work. All gifts and donations are then reported monthly on the website. We also try to establish contact with companies who may be able to step in and sponsor the activities of the association, in return we publish their company profile on our website or for example in the calendar, which we sell through our web shop, which we opened in late summer 2010 and where there are items to purchase while supporting the association's work. We hope that in the future we can still be of assistance to those of you who would like a faithful friend for the family, and at the same time help a dog out of their situation and prepare a place for another. A warm thank you, for following our work, and for helping us to make a difference.
